# Provenance Envelopes

## Purpose

Preserve non-cryptographic workflow ancestry for package creation, merge, migration, replay, and publication handoffs.

## Current doctrine

- Envelopes record artifact IDs and digests, parent references, workflow action, build, UTC time, declared local role label, reason code, standards, and preserved extensions.
- Declared labels are workflow metadata and never authenticate a human.
- Publication preview exposes both a visual chain and a structured fallback.
