Unreliability is a source property and game mechanic, not permission for generated text to own reality. ## Server-owned mission truth The authoritative server owns valid entities, locations, objectives, rewards, inventory, access, evidence, legal status, and state transitions. Generated dialogue can refer to those records but cannot create them. ## Verification loop - Check whether named entities and locations exist in authoritative records. - Compare the report with broker history, provenance, independent sources, and current world state. - Mark contradictions, missing dependencies, impossible coordinates, and unverified relationships. - Communicate confidence and alternative explanations before commitment. - Preserve a fail-forward result if a report is wrong: new evidence, exposure, relationship change, route discovery, or a revised requirement—not arbitrary silent loss. ## Deep links - Player trust and reputation networks: https://iarpg.com/docs/report/hallucinated-ai-quest-design-in-vr-mmorpgs#player-trust-deception-and-reputation-networks - Verification mechanics and skill-based detection: https://iarpg.com/docs/report/hallucinated-ai-quest-design-in-vr-mmorpgs#sanity-check-mechanics-and-skill-based-detection - Economic and engagement impacts: https://iarpg.com/docs/report/hallucinated-ai-quest-design-in-vr-mmorpgs#economic-and-engagement-impacts - Mitigation strategies and design guidelines: https://iarpg.com/docs/report/hallucinated-ai-quest-design-in-vr-mmorpgs#mitigation-strategies-and-design-guidelines - NPC behavior, memory, and reputation systems: https://iarpg.com/docs/report/designing-engaging-fair-npcs-for-an-international-espionage-mmo#behavior-systems-dialogue-memory-reputation-adaptive-tactics
